ENVIRONMENTAL RESEARCH SCIENTIST

Scheda is in search of an Environmental Research Scientist STA Division – Fire Project Research Team.  The Environmental Research Scientist will be an employee of Scheda Ecological Associates, Inc., but the position will be based in the main offices of the South Florida Water Management District, located at 3301 Gun Club Road, West Palm Beach, Florida.

Qualifications:

This position requires working as a member of a multi-disciplinary ecosystem team and provides exposure to a wide range of ecosystem studies.  The focus of this position is to provide field and office support for the Fire Project research efforts.

ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAMS MANAGER - City of Miami

Salary Range$57,777 - $96,884 annually (Salary Negotiable within range)

Method of Selection:  Applicants will be assessed on the basis of their training and experience as shown on the application form.

The City of Miami’s Office of Sustainable Initiatives is in search of candidates with technical expertise on matters involving environmental programs, projects and environmental policy to oversee the planning, designing, and coordination for the activities of office staff members designated to citywide projects ensuring that the goals and objectives of the office are accomplished within prescribed time frames and funding parameters.  The duties of this position may include, but are not limited to: assisting in the development of short and long-range planning; assisting with the development and implementation of the budget; developing policy, program and project strategies and goals ensuring the implementation of activities within determined time frames; developing and overseeing funding; developing procedures, staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources; formulating work plans and staffing requirements; meeting with staff to outline work plans and assign duties, responsibilities, and scope of authority; and conferring with personnel to ensure programs and projects are progressing on schedule and within budget; reviewing status reports prepared by personnel and modifying schedules or plans as required; and preparing reports for the director or designee.

REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Engineering, Environmental Studies, City, Regional or Urban Planning, Construction Management, Architecture, Historic Preservation, Architectural History, Urban Studies, or closely related field and a minimum of four (4) years professional experience within the environmental field. In addition one (1) year of the said experience must have been in a supervisory capacity. A Valid Driver's License from any state (Equivalent to a State of Florida Class E) may be utilized upon application, however prior to appointment a State of Florida Driver's License (Class E or higher) must be presented to the Department of Employee Relations.
OR An equivalent combination of education and experience beyond a Bachelor’s degree in an aforementioned or closely related field.

SENIOR ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEER

A Florida-based environmental consulting firm affiliated with a Brazilian company is seeking a Senior Environmental Engineer to be responsible for expanding company’s environmental and water resource services to existing and new clients. Services included, but not limited to, coastal engineering, hydrodynamic, studies and modelling, water quality assessments and water supply evaluations.
This position requires technical knowledge and business development skills.

Position responsibilities include: New projects and business development, management of all phases of projects (proposals, cost estimates, execution plans, reports, implementation), and management of consulting services.

Requirements:
-         Previous experience in client contacts and execution management of technical projects.
-         Ability to manage and supervise technical staff.
-         Bachelor Degree (or equivalent) in Engineering (Environmental or Civil).
-         8 years of experience of engineering in the area of environmental or water resource projects.
-         Fluent in English and Portuguese or English and Spanish with ability to communicate in Portuguese (written and verbal communication skills).
-         Professional Engineer registered in the State of Florida or the ability to obtain registration within six months of employment.
-         Computer skills for data processing, presentations and project management.
-         U.S. Citizenship is preferred.
                       
Good communication and management skills to deal with clients and subcontractors, organized, self-initiative, team-player, flexibility.

Additional Desirable Qualifications:

-         Advanced university degree in Engineering or Science.
-         Project execution experience beyond minimum required.

PROJECT MANAGER
Tampa, FL

PBS&J is seeking an experienced Scientist/Project Manager for our Tampa, FL office. The successful applicant will have at least 8 years of consulting experience and apply their scientific expertise and project management experience to manage natural resource related projects. The candidate should have demonstrated abilities or experience in the following:

· Perform oversight of technical staff for project functions such as production, coordination, planning, organizing, directing, controlling, and delivery of product to client.
· Supervise technical professionals, associate project managers and junior staff including workload and staffing management.
· Prepare project work plan, scope, schedule and budget, and communicates these to project team members; monitors/manages project production for compliance with schedule, budget and quality objectives.
· Permitting experience with the Army Corp of Engineers, EPA, Fish and Wildlife Service, state wildlife agencies, and state environmental agencies, wetland determination and delineations, and general familiarity with Florida wildlife and plants
· Coordinate and participate in project presentations to clients and other external groups, and promotes firm's capabilities, marketing its services among existing and prospective clients
· Report financial status of projects to program managers, division managers and project director.
Some travel may be required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
B.S. degree from an accredited college/university in biology, zoology, botany, ecology, environmental science, forestry, wildlife and fisheries, marine science, oceanography or a related field is required. A Masters, PhD or MBA is preferred.
·     Experience with GPS/GIS equipment and software, water quality monitoring equipment, small boats, ATVs, and 4WD vehicles is desired.
·     Candidates must be capable of performing field work under difficult conditions including heat, cold, humidity, rain, snow, ice, flooding, biting insects, dangerous wildlife, and heavy brush. Candidates must be capable of hiking up to 10 miles per day in rough terrain and carrying backpack loads up to 35 lbs.
·     Swimming/snorkeling capability/experience and SCUBA-certification is desirable.  Professional certification (Professional Wetland Scientist, Certified Ecologist, Certified Environmental Professional, etc.) is highly desired.

ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYST 2
South Florida Water Management District
West Palm Beach, FL
SFWMD has an immediate opening for an environmental analyst in the Water Use Regulation Division. The Division reviews and acts on applications for water use within legally mandated deadlines. Part of the review process is to ensure minimal environmental harm results from existing and proposed water uses. The position is responsible for analysis of Water Use Permit applications for potential and historical environmental impacts, assessment of ecological functions of site specific wetlands and adjacent upland landscape, delineation of wetland boundaries, attending meetings with permit applicants and consultants, coordination with Division staff in resolution of permitting issues, conducting field investigations of project sites for application review, pre-application assistance, and post permit compliance review, maintenance of databases for assigned applications and preparation of reports detailing findings and recommendations. Field work in support of the Water Use Permit application process may be required. Knowledge of South and Central Florida wetland ecosystems preferred.

Candidates must have a BS or BA in Biology, Wetland Ecology, Natural Resource Management or related field and one or more years of qualifying experience. This position may be filled at the Scientist 1 level for candidates with a qualifying degree and less than one year of related experience.  Valid Florida driver’s license required. ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES COORDINATOR
Town of Fort Myers Beach, Community Development

POSITION SUMMARY
The Environmental Sciences Coordinator performs professional and administrative work to plan, organize, coordinate, implement, direct, and evaluate the Town’s various environmental programs, land stewardship needs and regulations.  The successful candidate will coordinate environmental planning and permitting with other employees and departments, prepare reports, develop and enforce ordinances, oversee vending licenses for beach-oriented commercial uses, equipment, furniture, etc.; coordinate enforcement efforts of beach patrol; coordinate with the department of public works to ensure environmental compliance of Town projects; provide scientific and technical advice and assistance to the Director regarding implementation of various environmental programs.

Reports to and works under the direct supervision of the Director of the Community Development.

TECHNICAL PROGRAM SPECIALIST - SENIOR
SOUTH FLORIDA WATER MANAGEMENT DISTRICT- WATERSHED MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT

The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) is a regional agency of the state of Florida, and is charged with managing and protecting water resources of the region by balancing and improving water quality, flood control, natural systems and water supply. SFWMD's boundaries extend from central Florida to Lake Okeechobee, and from coast to coast, from Fort Myers to Fort Pierce, south through the sprawling Everglades to the Florida Keys and Florida Bay.

This position is an experienced senior interagency professional accountable for serving as the District technical liaison for coordination, communication and development of implementation strategies associated with Total Maximum Daily Loads and other water quality standards with District staff and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP). Formulates and provides executive briefings to District executive and senior management, Board members, and Legislators on technical program or project related issues and recommended actions to be communicated at interagency meetings. Coordinates development of District positions, issues, and recommended actions for communication at interagency meetings. Identifies opportunities for new cooperative agreements, cost-sharing, and alternative funding sources for assigned program and/or projects. 

Must possess a Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s preferred) in Science, Natural Resources Management, Planning, Communications or related discipline at least 8 years of experience of progressively responsible work with technical project and/or program management involving coordination among multiple management teams, governmental agencies, special or interagency groups.  Candidate must possess a general knowledge of water quality regulations.  Knowledge of the State and Federal Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) programs, the Basin Management Action Plan process and its relevance to TMDLs is highly desired.
